Platys Gialos is one of the most popular beaches in Sifnos. I am “désolée” my friends but I still wonder why: I found the stretch of beach to be very narrow and mainly occupied by tavernas, restaurants, and bars and not at all sunbathers-friendly. However, there is a good reason (well, 3 actually) to come to this beach during the day or in the evening: Maiolica! Along with 2 other restaurants, “Omega3” and “Nero e Alati”, Maiolica offers a delicious modern Greek cuisine based on local ingredients and in a trendy setting. The views from the rooftop will leave you speechless.
I was following Maiolica’s Instagram account long before I took the plane to Greece. I am always amazed how Instagram says A LOT about the way a restaurateur or a hotel owner takes his job and to what extent they esteem their readers/prospective clients! Their gorgeous pictures (much better than mines, boohoo) had whetted my appetite and showed very well that the Chef, Andrea Miano, was passionate about his restaurant and was surrounded by an enthusiastic team. Move the mouse over the pictures to read the details (Sorry for the poor quality, but they ware taken when it was dark).
The “farm to table” cuisine is a mix of Greek, middle-eastern (they had tabbouleh, kadaifi, tahini and malabi) and Asian food. Everything was flavorful and perfectly cooked, the service was friendly and OMG so funny. We had a great evening and lots of fun.
