Itacaré is located 1 hour 20 min by car from Ilhéus airport and 6 hours from Salvador de Bahia. Even if you have never heard its name before, believe it or not, it has been ranked among the 10 top small towns in the world! The beaches are incredible and the town is very lively (and safe) at night. It is a former-Bahian-fishermen-village-turned-surfers-paradise. No worries if you have never set foot on a surfboard, I am just like you and yet, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay there.
Open in 2013, Vila Barracuda was the dream-come-true of a group of Swedish friends (among them, a member of Abba, true story !) who wanted to create a guesthouse with an intimate feeling and a very laid-back atmosphere. It is a small 1-storey building, with only 9 rooms of different sizes, a living room with a coffee table, decoration magazines, and colored cushions, a dining room with a communal table and 4 or 5 smaller tables and an open kitchen. The decoration is of contemporary Bahian style with a Scandinavian touch.
In the morning, breakfast is prepared by two lovely Bahian cooks, who make everything from creative juices to tapiocas (incredible local crepes) and cakes. A native Chef prepares the meals in the evening and it goes from delicious pasta to freshly caught fish and carefully prepared local produce. It is like having a private Chef at home. You can also taste Bahian cuisine in the numerous bars, restaurants and street food stalls in the town’s main street, within walking distance from the hotel.
